The Bulgarian Orthodox Church will commemorate the centenary of the consecration of the Patriarchal Cathedral of St. Alexander Nevsky on November 22 and 23, 2024, the press service of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church - Bulgarian Patriarchate (BOC-BP) said here on Tuesday.
For a century, the cathedral has stood as a testament to the hopes, disappointments, joys, sorrows, celebrations, and defeats of the Bulgarian people. Delegations from all local Orthodox churches will visit Sofia for the celebration.
On November 22, an evening service with a bread blessing will take place at the St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral. On November 23, a holy liturgy at the cathedral will be led by Patriarch Daniil of Bulgaria and Metropolitan of Sofia.
The BOC-BP invites Orthodox Christians to join in prayer for the spiritual celebrations.
The 100th anniversary of the consecration of the St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral was on September 12, 2024, but will be celebrated on November 23, which is the church's winter feast day, Bishop Gerasim of Melnik, the Secretary General of the Holy Synod of BOC-BP told BTA.
On September 12, 1924, the consecration of the St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral commenced with a ceremony in Sofia. Since the cathedral has three altars, the consecration was conducted over three consecutive days: September 12, 13, and 14, Bishop Gerasim explained.
