BSP-United Left put out a declaration Tuesday saying that Ukrainian attacks deep in Russian territory threatens to escalate the war, said the press office of BSP, the Bulgarian Socialist Party. The declaration expresses concern over such escalation.

They argue that "the decision of US President Joe Biden to allow use of long-range missiles against Russia can have grave consequences for the entire region". "Bulgaria is only 400 km away from Odesa and any change in the situation there immediately affects the security environment in Bulgaria," the declaration says.

They urge the Bulgarian authorities to monitor the situation closely and take any measures that may be necessary for national security.

In the words of BSP-United Left, "the attempt to make the war irreversible is a threat for the entire continent".

They argue that there can be no military conclusion of the conflict and that ceasefire and peace talks are the only solution.

"We call upon the Bulgarian government to declare publicly its disagreement with this decision and resolve not to be part of the forces that stoke the conflict," the declaration says.

Earlier on Tuesday, Rumen Petkov, the leader of ABV which is one of the partners in the BSP-United Left coalition, expressed the same sentiments after a meeting with Russian Ambassador Eleonora Mitrofanova.
