A record amount of a total of 135 kg of drugs - amphetamines and marijuana - were seized overnight between Monday and Tuesday at the Lesovo border crossing point during a joint check by the Border Police and the Customs Agency, Border Police Chief Commissioner Anton Zlatanov said Tuesday at Kapitan Andreevo border crossing point.
The drugs were discovered in a truck selected for a thorough customs inspection, which had travelled from Turkiye and entered Bulgaria from the Hamzabeyli border crossing, Zlatanov said, adding that the driver of the vehicle was spotted cutting the tarpaulin cover and trying to take boxes out of it.
During the inspection, 125 kilograms of amphetamines and 10 kilograms of marijuana were found hidden in the truck with the help of a police service dog.
Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated in the case under the supervision of the Yambol District Prosecution Office.
