Arupa Lahiry and her dance group will perform traditional Indian dances in Burgas on August 14, the press centre of Burgas Municipality said on Thursday.

The dance group will present Bharatanatyam, a traditional dance form from South India, specifically from the state of Tamil Nadu. It is characterised by complex steps, expressive hand gestures and lavish costumes, often depicting stories from Hindu mythology, the municipal press centre noted.

The event, which will take place on the open stage in the Burgas Sea Garden, is part of the 2024 celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and India. 

The organizers are the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, the Embassy of India in Sofia and the East-West Indological Foundation.
