Sofia University opened its first bookstore in Burgas on Thursday. Sofia University Publishing House Director Prof. Valeri Stefanov said the idea was born among colleagues from the Sofia University branch in Burgas, who saw a need to have a bookstore in the seaside city.

Stefanov thanked the Burgas Centre for Contemporary Art and Library, in whose building the bookstore is housed, as well as the Burgas City Hall and the local Municipal Council for their support in the implementation of the project. "I highly appreciate the desire of Burgas Municipality and the local intellectual community to have a Sofia University bookstore here. This is not only one more bookstore, but also a gesture to the academic community in the city, which I hope will grow," added Stefanov.

Visitors in the new bookstore will find about 500 titles from the publisher's current catalog. The Sofia University publishing house puts out between 300-350 books annually.

The bookstore also carries various souvenirs with the Sofia University logo.

Among the official guests of the opening were Burgas Deputy Mayor for Education Mihail Nenov and the Municipal Council Chair, Mihail Hadjiyanev, who was also among the first customers of the bookstore.
