President Rumen Radev will open the 21st edition of the Bulgarian Christmas charity initiative at noon in Burgas, which is held under his auspices and supports children in need of diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation, reported the presidential press office.

During the event, the theme and goals of the 2023/2024 campaign will be announced. The results of the charity initiative's 2022/2023 campaign, which focused on supporting children with rare genetic diseases, will also be reported. Thanks to the donations of thousands of Bulgarians, hundreds of children and medical institutions from all over the country were supported.

On November 20, the Department of Neonatology at the Dr. Ivan Seliminski Medical Centre in Sliven received a donation of a high-class ultrasound machine from the Bulgarian Christmas campaign, the hospital said. The head of the department, Dr. Tanya Pramatarova said that about 1,500 babies go through neonatology every year. The percentage of prematurely born children in the region is permanently higher than the average for the country, 17.19%. The department is the only medical establishment in the territory of Sliven for rearing, intensive and specific treatment, as well as providing advisory assistance for risky and premature newborns.
