Customs officers at the border crossing checkpoint Lesovo found over 4.6 kg of cannabis during an inspection of a truck, the National Customs Agency said in a press release on Tuesday. The marijuana was hidden in a cavity in the bed in the driver's compartment.

The Turkish-registered truck arrived at Lesovo on March 28, on its way out of the country. The driver, Turkish citizen H.E., was transporting goods from the Netherlands to Turkiye. Following a risk analysis, the vehicle was selected by customs officers for a thorough inspection, which found 4,602 grams of cannabis, worth approximately BGN 70,000.

Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated in the case by an investigating customs inspector and are being conducted under the supervision of the Yambol District Prosecutor's Office.

In the month of March alone, customs officers at Lesovo seized 82.350 kg of marijuana worth more than BGN 1.3 million.
