Customs officers at the Kapitan Andreevo border crossing checkpoint discovered undeclared gold items worth nearly BGN 130,00 and currency worth USD 40,000, the press centre of the Regional Customs Agency in Svilengrad said on Friday. 

The items and currency with a total worth of over BGN 200,000 was found in the underwear and luggage of a Ukrainian bus passenger during an inspection of a bus leaving Bulgaria

A pre-trial investigation has been initiated into the case, and active investigation actions are being carried out under the supervision of the Haskovo District Prosecutor's Office, the customs office added.

Finance Minister Temenuzhka Petkova visited the Kapitan Andreevo border crossing checkpoint on Friday, announcing that the reconstruction of the checkpoint on the border with Turkiye is set to begin within the next three months.
