In February 2025, 1,007 pre-trial proceedings were initiated for crimes related to production, possession and distribution of drugs, an analysis of the interdepartmental unit of the prosecution service and the Ministry of Interior shows, the state prosecution said.

In February, 605 specialized police operations were conducted to counteract drug-related crimes, and 426 for illegal migration.

A total of 1,021 people were detained for drug-related crimes. Eleven laboratories/areas for the production and cultivation of narcotic substances were discovered.

Another 81 people were detained for illegally transporting groups and individuals across the country's border and for illegally assisting foreign citizens to reside or cross the country in violation of the law. A total of 68 pre-trial proceedings were initiated.

During the period, there were 404 judicial acts for crimes related to narcotics that entered into force, and 115 judicial acts for crimes related to migrant trafficking.

In January 2025, 1,083 people were detained for the production, processing, possession and distribution of drugs, while in December 2024 this number was 739, according to data from the interdepartmental unit of the prosecution service and the Ministry of Interior. In February, 284 specialized operations were conducted to counter illegal migration and 22 third-country nationals illegally residing in Bulgaria were detained.
