DRF-MRF has called for an urgent meeting of the Joint Governance Council, leader Dzhevdet Chakarov told a news briefing in Parliament on Wednesday. He explained that, in their view, the Council is not functioning in the most proper way.
“Our parliamentary group may request that current chair Kostadin Angelov of GERB-UDF be replaced,” Chakarov said.
Chakarov assured that the parliamentary group will support the state budget with the clear understanding that the country needs a budget that is essential for its development. "That is why we supported a regular government, without participating in the first echelon, fully aware," he added. According to him, it is more important that the country develops in the right direction, that pensioners receive the pension indexation according to the "Swiss rule." It is also important for municipalities to function properly – those that did not receive any support last year for project implementation, regardless of "color and affiliation," should be prioritized in the current budget.
"Our next goal, which is important for us, is to be in the Eurozone, which requires a budget in which we have made efforts," added the leader. They are ready to take responsibility for, in Chakarov's words, "popular and unpopular measures" in the name of the country. "In terms of stability and predictability, it is good to be in the Eurozone, especially since we are already full members of Schengen," he emphasized, but stressed that judicial reform must continue, all appointments must be transparent, with discussions, debates, high standards, and public trust, without dependencies.
