Speculations that someone is giving water to Greece and that Bulgaria does not benefit from this agreement should be firmly dispelled, Water Minister Manol Genov said Thursday at the hearing in Parliament on the Arda River water supply to Greece.
BSP - United Left questioned what financial commitments Greece has made under the 2024 interim agreement between the National Electricity Company (NEK) and the region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace for a regular water supply along the Arda River for the needs of Greek farmers and whether Bulgaria is giving the water for free, which was the opinion circulating in the public domain.
"Noting in this agreement is free of charge. The consideration is the electricity that NEK at certain times accepts from the Greek state," Genov said. In his words, speculations that Bulgaria is giving water to Greece should be dispelled.
