Hikers in the mountains should be prepared with crampons, and for more serious hikes - a picket and rope. Skis should have treated edges to have traction, the Mountain Rescue Service said Thursday.

They added that the weather in the mountains was cloudy. Moderate wind is blowing in the high parts and it is icy.

According to the weather forecast of the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH), today will be mostly cloudy, with snow showers over Western Bulgaria's massifs and the Balkan Range. Moderate to strong west-northwesterly wind. Highs: 3C at 1,200 m, minus 3C at 2,000 m.
