Deputy Floor Leader of Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) Lena Borislavova told journalists that she will waive her immunity as an MP before it is put to the vote in the plenary hall. She commented on the proposal of the Sofia District Prosecutor's Office to Acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov to request her immunity in connection with a case involving an environment-protection group, Save Koral.
“My immunity cannot be a bargaining chip in political processes in the National Assembly, this is exactly what our party is against," Borislavova said.
The reason for these political attacks is that the prosecution service does not work as part of the judiciary, but as part of the political process in the country, she believes.
Lena Borislavova also commented on the words of GERB leader Boyko Borissov, who said in Plovdiv that the parliamentary group would vote with 69 votes "against" the removal of her immunity. These 69 votes should be used to vote laws that will help people, Borislavova said.
“I urge Boyko Borissov to immediately sign the declaration for a "sanitary cordon" because of all these problems that have existed for a very long time in Bulgaria and which we are fighting. If he wants Bulgaria to become a state governed by the rule of law, this should in no way be related to my immunity,” Borislavova further said.
She took part in a protest in front of the Sofia City Court in connection with the arrest of Lachezar Stavrev, a former expert in the finance ministry during Assen Vassilev's term in office.
