The Judges Chamber of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) Tuesday appointed Georgi Cholakov, the current President of the Supreme Administrative Court (SAC), as acting SAC President after his seven-year term expires on November 22, 2024, until a new president is elected. The election of a new SAC president is scheduled for March 20, 2025.

Cholakov was elected acting President with eight members of the Judges Chamber voting in favour and two voting against. During the debate, almost all SAC judges agreed that Cholakov should continue to lead the court until the election procedure is completed.

Before proceeding with the election, the Judges Chamber held a vote and decided that it, rather than the SJC Plenum, is the competent body to appoint an acting President at SAC.

The procedure for the election of a Prosecutor General is currently underway. Borislav Sarafov is the only candidate for this position. The election is to take place on January 16.
