The memory of the fallen Bulgarian pilots should be honoured with respect and reverence, free from political manipulation. In this context, calling for resignations is not only inappropriate but also deeply inhumane, Slavi Trifonov, leader of There is Such a People (TISP), wrote on his Facebook profile on Monday.

His comment was in response to a crash of a military L-39 ZA aircraft near the Graf Ignatievo Air Base on Friday afternoon, which killed the two pilots on board.

"Neither potential resignations nor the commanders being asked to resign will solve the problems; they are not to blame," Trifonov wrote. He added, "President Radev is right in saying that those who serve their country know they risk their lives daily, as do those who have already made the ultimate sacrifice." He referred to Radev's comments on the plane crash earlier in the day.

He also supported Radev's firm stance on North Macedonia. He was referring to earlier statements by Radev on the visit of North Macedonia's head of State Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova to Sofia last week.
