The Bulgarian Davis Cup team will have the opportunity to return to World Group I after overcoming El Salvador in dramatic fashion in the World Group II match between the two sides here on Monday. In the decisive fifth tennis match, Yanaki Milev saved three match points against two-time doubles champion Marcelo Arevalo to prevail with 2-6, 6-1 and 7-6 in 2 hours and 25 minutes of play. Thus, in February 2025, Bulgaria will play in the play-offs for promotion to World Group I of the Davis Cup.

In February 2023 Bulgaria qualified for World Group I for the first time since the format changes of the competition but was relegated to Word Group II after losing to Bosnia and Herzegovina in February 2024. Before that, the Bulgarian national team was part of the second tier of Davis Cup in 1988, when it was called Group I.
