On this date in Bulgarian history:
1794: Priest Stoyko Vladislavov (1739-1813) ordained as Bishop Sophronius of Vratsa. Prominent figure of Bulgarian National Revival. Canonized by Bulgarian Orthodox Church in 1954.
1908: Textile workers go on strike in Sliven.
1912: King Ferdinand decrees establishment of Third Bulgarian Army.
1912: Balkan nations issue an ultimatum to Turkey to implement a Berlin Treaty provision whereby the Christian population in the Ottoman Empire should be given full autonomy. Turkey rejects the ultimatum and the First Balkan War (1912-1913) breaks out.
1932: Union of Artists' Societies established.
1944: Bulgarian Army joins Third Ukrainian Front against Nazi Germany during WWII.
1970: BTA joins European Alliance of Press Agencies.
2003: Convention on Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes (Water Convention) is ratified (effective January 26, 2004).
2007: Radio Sofia of Bulgarian National Radio starts airing 24-hour programme.
