Bulgarian President Rumen Radev arrives in Riga on Tuesday, June 11, to attend the B9 Summit. The B9 (Bucharest 9) format for consultation and dialogue on matters of security includes NATO members Bulgaria, Czechia, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania and Slovakia.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg will take part in the event, which is known as a meeting of the Alliance's eastern flank.
The B9 leaders will coordinate their positions on the NATO agenda ahead of the bloc's Washington Summit in July.
Radev is expected to make a statement for the media upon his arrival in the Latvian capital. The summit will open with statements by its host, Latvian President Edgars Rinkevics, his counterparts Klaus Iohannis of Romania and Andrzej Duda of Poland, and Secretary General Stoltenberg.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who is in Berlin for the Ukraine Recovery Conference, will deliver a video address to the B9 leaders in Riga.
The two sessions of the summit will be held behind closed doors. They will take place in the ceremonial hall of Riga Castle, on the banks of the Daugava River, which is the official residence of the president of Latvia.
