The Horizons gala was held in Sofia Tuesday, bringing together some of the most influential business people and leaders in Bulgaria for a discussion on how business and culture can pool their efforts in the name of a better society. President Rumen Radev was patron of the event organized by the Manager magazine.
In his opening remarks, he said that he had been at many events and talked about economy, green transition, circular economy, state support - but never about the connection between business and culture. "This here is a unique opportunity," he said.
He also said that being the President of Bulgaria he has a strong commitment to culture because it is crucial for the condition of a country and the future of a nation.
"Culture can be a weapon, soft power or sometimes even more powerful than missiles and bombs," said the head of State adding that businesses have the big task of supporting Bulgarian culture. The State has a responsibility to provide conditions for culture to thrive but it also needs the support of private initiatives.
The guest of honour at the Horizons gala was the Portuguese writer, professor and journalist José Rodrigues dos Santos.
President Radev was accompanies by his wide Dessislava Radeva.
Many of the attending business people are winners of the Manager of the Year competition held annually by the Manager magazine.
