Bulgaria’s Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev has held a telephone conversation with the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, the Foreign Ministry said in a press release on Tuesday.

Georgiev reassured Kallas of Bulgaria’s support for the EU High Representative's efforts to preserve unity and build consensus within the EU, especially in light of current geopolitical challenges. The Bulgarian Foreign Minister also highlighted this country's commitment to a united and strong European Union that ensures the security and prosperity of its citizens, especially given the ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East.

Georgiev briefed the EU High Representative on Bulgaria's priorities for the EU's Common Foreign and Security Policy for the upcoming institutional cycle. Support for EU enlargement and the integration of the Western Balkans based on the principle of own merits, support for security in the Black Sea as a strategically important region for common European security, Bulgaria’s support for Ukraine and addressing the humanitarian crisis in the Middle East were among the priorities identified.

Georgiev and Kallas agreed on the key role that Bulgaria, as an EU Member State, has in building peace and security in Europe and maintaining the EU's fundamental principles of unity and consensus.
