The ban on exports of insulin and antibiotics for children has been extended by yet another month, in accordance with an order by caretaker Health Minister Galya Kondeva, quoted by her Ministry’s press centre on Monday. The order also bans the export of insulin analogues, other blood sugar-lowering drugs, and antibiotics intended for systemic use in childhood.

Kondeva justified her order with data from inspections, which found that there was irregular or delayed supply of the above-mentioned medicinal products or deliveries refused by wholesale warehouses.

The last export ban on these groups of medicines expires on Monday. The new ban comes into force on Tuesday.

The original ban was issued by former Health Minister Prof. Hristo Hinkov on November 2, 2023, and was repeatedly extended. The purpose of the ban is to secure sufficient quantities of the medicines and meet the needs of Bulgarian patients.
