site.btaDoctors Participate in Blood Donation Campaign in Burgas

Doctors from Burgas Hospital and employees of the Regional Directorate of the Interior participated in a charity initiative and donated blood on Friday, the hospital informed. Overall, more than 40 people participated in the blood donation campaign of the Burgas Hospital.

The campaign was organized by the doctors of the hospital, who donate blood for their patients. Outside of emergencies, for which relatives and friends are usually mobilised, the hospital is constantly in need of people for regular blood transfusions, they said. "We do this for patients with blood diseases, elderly people with anemia. There are more than 30 people with thalassemia in the region alone, and their lives depend on monthly blood transfusions. And we currently treat elderly and lonely people with low hemoglobin, who have no relatives and no one to donate blood for them", said the doctors.

Among the first donors on Friday were senior commissioner Emil Pavlov, Director of the Regional Directorate of the Interior Ministry and Dr. Svetoslav Todorov, Deputy Director of Burgas Hospital. They were joined by young doctors from the hospital and employees from various units of the Regional Directorate of the Interior Ministry.

At the end of March, school graduates in Burgas are also expected to donate blood, after schools in the city applied for inclusion in the campaign of the Burgas Hospital.
