Vidin Municipality aims to turn the region into a year-round tourist destination with a variety of cultural events, combined with historical heritage and beautiful nature, said Borislava Borisova, Deputy Mayor of Vidin Municipality, on Wednesday at the public discussion for the development of tourism in the region.

Borisova presented the municipal programme for tourism for 2024, which includes organising events of local and national importance, as well as better advertising of Vidin as a tourist destination and greater participation in international tourist exchanges.

Tsetska Tsokova, Municipal Expert for Tourist Information and Advertising, said that there are already requests for group visits to Vidin by Bulgarian tourists for the new tourist season and that greater interest from cruise tourists is also expected in 2024. She presented data, according to which 93 cruise ships with over 40,000 tourists docked at Vidin's port on the Danube in 2023. Overall, more than 64,000 tourists visited the city in 2023, with 37,000 of them viewing the medieval castle Baba Vida, the town's primary landmark.

According to Tsokova, the main strategic goals for achieving better results in 2024 are appropriate positioning of the destination on the tourist market, better promotion and advertising of festivals and sports events, as well as active cooperation with vocational high schools with specialties in tourism.
