Local Elections Runoff Campaign Ends Friday Midnight

The election campaign for the local elections’ runoffs on November 5 ends Friday midnight. Saturday is a reflection day.

In the first round of the elections on October 29, Bulgarians voted for 265 municipality mayors, 35 borough mayors (24 in Sofia, six in Plovdiv and five in Varna), 3,041 mayoralty mayors, and 5,053 municipal councilors. Balloting took place in 12,299 voting sections countrywide, including 442 mobile sections at hospitals, prisons, and hospices, but only with paper ballots.

Voting in local elections runoffs will take place in some 7,250 polling stations, with machine voting being available in 5,900 of them, Central Election Commission (CEC) Spokesperson Rositsa Mateva said at a briefing on Wednesday.

In the runoffs on November 5, citizens will vote for 91 municipality mayors, 31 borough mayors and 451 mayoralty mayors.

A total of 6,308,052 Bulgarians are eligible to vote on Sunday, including those who have acquired voting rights between the two rounds.

Election day starts at 7 a.m., ends at 8 p.m. and can be extended until 9 p.m. if needed.
