President Rumen Radev believes that the proposed dismissal of the Interior Ministry's Secretary General at this moment could only serve interests other than those of the Bulgarian people, the Presidency press service said on Thursday.

According to Radev: "The motives for the proposal to dismiss Commissioner Petar Todorov from the post of Interior Ministry Secretary General are entirely political and are a continuation of the full-scale purge in this institution. The arguments given for the lack of organization and control over the activities of the Ministry of Interior are in sharp contradiction with the reports on the activities of the Ministry of Interior for 2022 and the first half of 2023 of the Ministry of Interior itself. In its own reports, the Ministry of Interior reports better results in terms of both registered and solved crimes".

Radev states that the request for the removal corresponds with the recording of the Continue the Change (CC) party meeting from May 2023, when CC co-chair and Minister of Finance Assen Vassilev was heard saying: "the local elections will be with our Interior Ministry".

The statement reads that Bulgarian media and the public can request and get acquainted with the Reports on the Ministry of Interior activities, as they are based on specific data and statistics.

On August 18, after a meeting with representatives of the Interior Ministry and security services, Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov asked Minister of Interior Kalin Stoyanov to prepare a report requesting the replacement of Petar Todorov.
