site.btaDefence Ministers of Bulgaria, Romania Discuss Security Environment in Black Sea Region, Assistance to Ukraine


Defence Minister Atanas Zapryanov met with his Romanian counterpart, Angel Tilvar, here on Monday, Zapryanov's Ministry reported. The two discussed topics of mutual interest such as the changing security environment in the Black Sea region, assistance to Ukraine, the establishment of harmonized military mobility corridors in the Eastern flank of the Alliance, prospects for the defence industry in the context of the European rearmament initiatives under discussion, as well as possibilities for implementing joint projects.
The ministers highly appreciated the bilateral military relations and provided guidance for their further deepening.
Zapryanov and Tilvar signed a joint letter to the Turkish Minister of National Defence Yasar Guler inviting him to accede to the Memorandum of Understanding between their two ministries on the establishment of headquarters of Regional Special Operations Component Command.
The meeting at the Ministry of Defence was also attended by the Romanian Ambassador to Bulgaria Brandusa Predescu, Bulgarian Deputy Defence Minister Radostin Iliev, the Deputy Chief of Defence Lieutenant General Krasimir Kanev, Commander of the Romanian Navy Mihai Panait, heads of directorates of the armed forces of both countries.
