Turkiye's population increased by 292,567 at the end of 2024 from a year earlier, reaching 85.6 million, the Turkish Statistical Institute (Turkstat) said.
According to data released on Thursday, the total number of men in the country is 42.85 million, accounting for 50.02% of the total population, while women are 42.81 million, or 49.98% of the population.
Istanbul has the largest population, at 15.7 million. Its residents Turkish city increased by 45,678 compared to 2023.
According to Turkstat data, Istanbul residents make up 18.3% of the country's total population.
The capital Ankara ranks second, with 5.8 million population. The Aegean city of Izmir ranks third with a population of 4.5 million, followed by the northwestern industrial centre of Bursa with 3.2 million and the Mediterranean resort city of Antalya with 2.7 million.
Meanwhile, the northeastern district of Bayburt is the region with the smallest number of inhabitants, at 83 676, according to Turkstat data.
