The political crisis in Serbia has made its way onto the agenda of the European Parliament, as anti-corruption protests in the country continue for more than three months following the collapse of a concrete canopy at the railway station in the northern Serbian city of Novi Sad. The incident resulted in the deaths of 15 people, while two others were seriously injured and are still in hospital.

The European Parliament will discuss the situation in Serbia during a plenary session scheduled for Tuesday, February 11.

The information site European Western Balkans points out that several MEPs have already made individual statements regarding the situation in the Balkan country in recent months. However, this will be the first time the topic is debated in plenary since the protests over the Novi Sad tragedy began in November 2024.

Students, professors, teachers and other citizens held their traditional anti-corruption march Thursday through the central streets of Belgrade, chanting "General strike!", "The students love you!", and "We will not be silent!"

The police guarded the march as it went through the Serbian capital and bystanders applauded the protesters.

Social discontent has not subsided across Serbia for more than three months now. On January 28, Prime Minister Milos Vucevic resigned following an attack on protesting students who were placing stickers on the facade of the ruling party's headquarters in Novi Sad.
