The Social Democratic Party. the National Liberal Party, the Save Romania Union, the Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania and the Parliamentary Group of National Minorities will form a coalition and want to support a common candidate in the presidential elections. This is clear from a press release sent to the BTA office in Bucharest
The formations "announce their firm commitment to form a pro-European majority in the Romanian parliament, a pro-European government and support for a possible common pro-European candidate", the document reads.
In the coming days, the four parties and the representatives of the national minorities will work on a common programme for governance based on development and reforms, which will take into account the priorities of the citizens of Romania.
The parties have agreed to set up a joint committee to implement the governance programme and working groups on areas of activity. They have also agreed that a concrete plan for efficiency and reducing public spending and bureaucracy in the public administration is needed.
The formations also say that the present moment is crucial for Romania. "A profound change is needed and the pro-European parties assume this responsibility," they said.
