Romania will develop the potential of the Black Sea and invest in the construction of infrastructure in the region in order to enhance the country's energy security and achieve a reduction of dependence on the Russian Federation, Romanian Energy Ministry Secretary of State Pavel-Casian Nitulescu said here on Tuesday, addressing the opening of Energy Week Black Sea 2024, a two-day international conference on investments in renewable energy.

Nitulescu said that the Romanian Parliament on Monday opened a debate on the setting up of offshore wind farms in the Black Sea and hopes that the law will be adopted as soon as possible.

The Forum brings together government officials, investors, businesses and sector experts from Romania, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia and Turkey, as well as from international financial institutions and major multinational investors for a dialogue aimed at promoting the deployment of renewable energy in the region and attracting foreign direct investment.

The programme features discussions and presentations on topics such as financing renewable energy projects, the role of advanced industry in enabling the green transition, and trade and partnership relations between the countries.

Bulgaria is represented at the conference by Deputy Energy Minister Nikolay Nikolov. The participants include the Chairman of the Solar Academy Bulgaria Association, Dr. Eng. Veselin Todorov, who will moderate one of the discussions.
