“Cross-border Cooperation for Blue Growth: Blue Growth Collabs” is the name of a Bulgarian-Turkish environmental project, which is nearing completion. The project is implemented under the Bulgaria-Turkiye INTERREG-IPA Cross-border Cooperation Programme by the Assen Zlatarov University and the N.D. Zelinsky School of Chemical Technology from Bulgaria and the Trakya University and the Edirne High School from Turkiye

A meeting of the partners took place in Edirne, which reviewed progress so far and the sides exchanged experience, said project coordinator Emre Atilgan of the Department of Health Management at the Trakya University.

He said that next month work will be completed.

“The aim of the project is to raise awareness about the environment. Radiation was measured by collecting ground and air samples. The project is EUR worth 3.3 million, which is the largest budget of all cross-border projects between Turkiye and Bulgaria.”

With the money three new laboratories were built at Edirne’s Trakya University.

A special boat will be purchased for collecting samples for analysis of the water in Saros Bay. This will enhance infrastructure and the conditions for scientific analyses of the environment.
