The heavy traffic at the border crossings near the city of Adrianople continues during the season of travel of Turkish citizens from European countries to Turkiye. A total of 1,985,000 passengers have passed through the Kapikule/Kapitan Andreevo checkpoint on the Turkish-Bulgarian border and Pazarkule/Orestiada and Ipsala/Kipi checkpoints on the border with Greece since the start of the season on June 22, Edirne Governor Yunus Sezer, the Vali of Edirne, told a press conference.

He said that the intensive travel season lasts for three months. "We have increased the number of platforms at the Kapikule border crossing from 12 to 24 in total at the entrance and exit, thanks to which the time for processing documents was reduced from 45 minutes to 20 minutes. In previous years, the slow processing of documents created difficulties for travellers, queues built up and people waited for hours at borders. These complaints are now history. We have also reinforced the service staff by 210 more people and currently have 1,207 staff working on passenger services. This season, 492,000 cars have passed through, which is 45,000 more compared to the previous season," Sezer added.

The season of heavy travel by Turkish citizens is expected to last until the second half of September.
