site.btaBulgarian Forest Rangers Follow Progress of Wildfire across Border with Greece

Personnel of the Kardzhali Regional Forest Directorate and the Kirkovo State Forestry Farm are following the wildfire in the area of Alexandroupolis across Bulgaria's border with Greece, the Bulgarian Agriculture and Food Ministry said in a press release on Tuesday.

Senior officials of the forest services have visited the affected areas. The fire is centred some 10 km from the Bulgarian border and, for the time being, the residents and wooldand near Zlatograd are not at risk.

Considering the volatile situation and the proximity of the disaster area, preventive measures have already been taken to protect people in the border regions and the woodland. Roads in the area of the Veikata Peak near Zlatograd are being cleared by heavy machinery.
