The Bulgarian Foreign Ministry has condemned the Thursday incidents in Skopje when Bulgarian football fans were assaulted and one was injured seriously, in a statement released on Friday.
The Bulgarian fan who was injured is currently stable but his condition is serious and he is recovering from surgery in a hospital in Skopje. Officials of the Bulgarian Embassy are constantly in touch with the man, his relatives and the local health authorities.
The Foreign Ministry regrets that the positive and fair play spirit of the match between FC Levski and the local FC Shkupi has been marred by acts of aggression outside the pitch.
The Foreign Ministry expects from the authorities in North Macedonia to take the necessary steps to bring whoever is responsible to justice. “For yet another time we underscore the key importance of taking effective measures for prevent such acts of aggression and guarantee the safety of all citizens,” the Ministry says.
