site.btaCustoms Agency Seizes Silver Jewels Worth over BGN 186,000

Nearly 27 kilos of silver jewelry were seized by Bulgarian customs officers at the Kapitan Andreevo border checkpoint from a truck entering from Turkiye, the Customs Agency said on Monday.

The Montenegrin driver of the foreign-registered truck produced the required documents for the goods carried from Turkiye through Bulgaria to Bosnia and Herzegovina. During a thorough search, the officers found a metal box full of bangles, rings, chains, earrings and necklaces in a secret compartment. More jewels were found under the two seats. The haul consists of 84 packs of jewels weighing 26.706 kg, made of 925 sterling silver, worth BGN 186,942.

The jewels were impounded and pre-trial proceedings are underway under the supervision of the District Prosecution Office of Haskovo (Southern Bulgaria).
