Bulgaria’s Stefani Stoeva and Gabriela Stoeva won their fifth European women’s doubles title in badminton as they triumphed at the European Championships 2025 in Horsens, Denmark. In Saturday’s final, the No. 1 seed sisters defeated No. 6 seed Natasja Anthonisen/Maiken Fruergaard of Denmark 21-11 21-16 after 42 minutes of play.

The Bulgarians gave a robust performance both in defence and attack throughout the match. In the first game, they maintained a constant lead in the score, and after reaching 13-9, they had a particularly strong series of 8-2, ending the game in their favour. The second game was more even, and the Danish tandem, supported by the cheers of most of the audience, took a one-point lead on several occasions. After the score reached 14-14, the Bulgarians, coached by Petya Nedelcheva, had a series of 7-1, which took them to the final score of 21-16 in the game and the overall victory in the match.

This was the seventh European championship final for S. Stoeva/G. Stoeva in their career as a tandem. In addition to their five European titles (the first one earned in 2018), they have won two silver medals at European championships. They placed fifth at the 2024 Paris Olympics and grabbed the gold at the 2015 European Games in Baku.

After the final in Horsens, Gabriela Stoeva said: “It feels incredible. We knew it would be a very tough match because they would be playing at home. It was hard psychologically, but we won, and we are happy.”

Her sister Stefani added: “It has been a perfect week for us”.
