The Chamber Orchestra of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra in Munich is coming to the European Music Festival in Sofia with its concertmaster and conductor Radoslaw Szulc, the organisers from Cantus Firmus reported Friday. The concert will take place in Bulgaria Hall on April 14.
The concert is entitled "Romantic Fairyland." To be performed is music by Italian and Slavic composers, including Vivaldi, Dvorak, Tartini and Tchaikovsky, with violinist Mario Hossen as the guest soloist.
Hossen noted that these are orchestrators who live entirely for the music, not just professionals who perform their duties perfectly. "They put a lot of emotion and personal attitude, and that makes every encounter with such an orchestra a remarkable experience. This is an ensemble that is extremely homogeneous in its sound. They work together daily and have a common approach to instrumental expression. This makes it possible to create a sound that achieves the absolute benchmark for chamber music," Hossen commented.
A special guest for the concert is the Italian ensemble player Piero Barbareschi, who is one of the most sought-after specialists in the field of Baroque music. He is active as a concert soloist and in various chamber ensembles in Italy, France, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Belgium, the Czech Republic, and the USA.
The Chamber Orchestra of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra was founded by Radoslaw Szulc and Karl Wagner in 2000 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the orchestra. All the orchestra members are part of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, which is one of the top 10 classical orchestras in the world.
Szulc is a violinist and conductor, winner of the Wiener Competition in Poland, the Sibelius Competition in Helsinki, and the International Fritz Kreisler Competition in Vienna. He has appeared regularly as a soloist with leading orchestras throughout Europe, and has given concerts at venues such as the Barbican in London, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, and Hercules Hall in Munich. Since 1998 he has held the post of principal concertmaster of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra. He has been known in Bulgaria since 2017 as soloist with the Cantus Firmus Orchestra and as conductor with the Bulgarian National Radio Symphony Orchestra.
