Speaking at the annual Energy Summit conference here on Tuesday, Energy Minister Zhecho Stankov said: "Our goal is Bulgaria to be a net exporter of electricity, but we want to strengthen our connectivity with other countries." The forum was organized by the Capital weekly at Sofia Event Center.
Earlier on Tuesday, Stankov took part in a meeting with Constantin Borosan, State Secretary at Moldova's Ministry of Energy, Attila Steiner, State Secretary for Energy and Climate Policy at the Hungarian Energy Ministry, and Orkhan Zeynalov, Deputy Energy Minister of Azerbaijan.
"It is an honour for Bulgaria and for me as Minister of Energy to have such a high-level meeting related to energy supply in the region, and during the discussions we realised that when we are alone we are weak, but when we talk about common goals and projects we are stronger to find a solution to all problems," Stankov said.
In his words, Bulgaria has the opportunity to build a pumped storage hydroelectric power plant and be a balancing centre to help the countries in the region to increase their electricity production from renewable sources.
