An air raid alert has been declared in the Ukrainian Black Sea city of Odesa and the region due to a threat of a missile attack, Odesa regional military administration chairman Oleh Kiper said on Telegram Tuesday.

According to local channels on Telegram, two missiles were fired, posing a threat to the cities of Chernomorsk, Yuzhne, Tuzli and Odesa. Local authorities urge the population to shelter in safe places until the alert is lifted.

Bulgarians in the Odesa region number more than 150,000 and are the third largest population in Ukraine according to the official 2001 census. About 50-60,000 Bulgarians live in the city of Odesa itself. The largest compact Bulgarian population is in the regions of Bolhrad, Izmail and Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi.
