The Plovdiv Cultural Calendar for 2025 is filled with festivals, competitions, concerts, theatre forums, exhibitions, and much more, said Plovdiv Municipality on Wednesday.
The cultural calendar relies on traditional festivals and events that have been established over time. Among them are the Scene at Crossroads Autumn Theatre Festival, the Festival of Amateur Theatres, the Sofia Film Fest in Plovdiv, Kinomania Film Festival and the Golden Rhyton Festival for Bulgarian Documentary and Animation.
The calendar includes the annual National Student Acting Competition, organized by the Plovdiv National High School for Performing and Screen Arts, as well as the BG Radio Annual Music Awards, the Hristo G. Danov National Literary Award and the Dobromir Tonev National Poetry Contest.
For the first time in 12 years, the National Autumn Exhibitions will be held after a curatorial competition, while the fine arts programme for 2024 will see many exhibitions of the Society of Plovdiv Artists, as well as exhibitions in the gallery spaces of the City Art Gallery.
2025 will feature both traditional and brand new events of all genres, including the holding of a scientific conference on the research of the Mediterranean Sea and a theatrical exhibition, organized by the Plovdiv Drama Theatre.
The 26th edition of the International Puppet Festival and TheatAir 2025 will present events at the State Puppet and Drama Theatre and the Hand Theatre in Plovdiv, while the Black Box International Theatre and Contemporary Dance Festival in May and June will present remarkable performances in the spaces of the Chamber Stage in the Drama Theatre, the State Puppet Theatre, the Arsenal Of Art Gallery, and the Shalom Aleichem People's Community Center.
From July to September, the Nova Film EOOD will organize acting master classes with Hollywood star Gary Stretch and Bulgarian actress Dessy Tenekedjieva, which will be held in the Small Conference Hall in the Boris Hristov House of Culture. The 11th edition of the International Film and Literary Festival Cinelibri Plovdiv will show world masterpieces at the Lucky Cinema in the fall.
A variety of events await music lovers, including the International Chamber Music Festival, the European Music Festival, as well as world-famous performers like Matteo Bocelli, Seal and Sarah Brightman, who have chosen the city to delight their loyal fans from all over the country. The International Folklore Festival will rock the stage of the Ancient Theatre during the summer months. The Autumn Edition of Plovdiv Jazz Fest will take place from November 7 to 9, while one of Bulgaria's most successful guitarists, Angel Dyulgerov, will perform his exclusive project entitled Samsara - the guitar world of Angel Dyulgerov in March 2025 on the stage of the Plovdiv Drama Theatre.
