The Republic of North Macedonia has been elected as a member of the United Nations Human Rights Council for the period 2025-2027, Skopje’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade said after the vote held at the UN General Assembly in New York.

In a social media post, North Macedonia's Foreign Minister Timcho Mucunski described the decision as a diplomatic success, adding that one of their main goals will be to actively participate in the UN Human Rights Council, contributing to the global promotion of human rights and improving the global situation.

The Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Ministry added that North Macedonia had been ranked first among the countries ensuring respect and protection of human rights in the latest national report of the Universal Periodic Review presented to the Human Rights Council in Geneva. The country has been identified as a qualified candidate that meets the necessary conditions for participation in the work of this intergovernmental body, the Ministry said in its press release.

The Republic of North Macedonia was a member of the UN Human Rights Council in the period 2014-2016.
