site.btaEC Is Still Assessing Bulgaria's Request for Second Payment under Recovery and Resilience Plan

The European Commission (EC) has not finalized its assessment of Bulgaria's request for a second EU payment under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP), EC Coordinating Spokesperson Veerle Nuyts said at a press conference here Tuesday. 

He said the EC is looking into whether Bulgaria has complied with the indicators and targets required for the payment. The Commission continues to work very closely with Bulgaria to complete the assessment, Nuyts said as he was asked about the reason for the Commission’s delay in responding and what answer can be expected.

In July, caretaker Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Lyudmila Petkova said that the second payment under the NRRP is included in the 2024 state budget. On October 7, 2023, Bulgaria submitted a second request for payment for EUR 653 million.
