Firefighters, volunteers and military personnel kept fighting the wildfires in the regions of Haskovo and Plovdiv, the Interior Ministry said in a press release on Sunday.
Firefighters were still trying to extinguish the flames that broke out in a pine forest near the village of Studena, Svilengrad Municipality. On Saturday, the fire spread towards two other villages, forcing the dispatch of machinery and the evacuation of four residents of the Ravna Gora village. The fire has spread over some 7,300 ha, mostly dry grasslands and areas not suitable for afforestation, as well as some 1,800 ha of mixed forest, the Interior Ministry said. A total of 40 firefighters, 15 fire engines and 4 bulldozers were on site on Saturday night.
The wildfire near the villages of Otets Paisievo and Sarnegor in the Plovdiv Region has been extinguished.
Firefighters from fire stations in Plovdiv and Sofia Province, volunteers and military personnel keep fighting the forest fire near the villages of Pesnopoy and Mihiltsi.
The fire outbreaks near the village of Gornoseltsi, Ivaylovgrad Municiplaity, and the villages of Ustrem and Srem, Topolovgrad Municipality, have been localised.
Fire outbreaks near the villages of Granit and Ostra Mogila in the Stara Zagora Region, have also been localised.
A wildfire spread over an area of 25 ha near the village of Kopriva in the Kyustendil Region has been localised on three fronts. The firefighters keep fighting the flames.
On Saturday night, wildfires have been extinguished near the villages of Orlov dol and Varbovo (Haskovo Region), Granitovo (Yambol Region), Banya and Vedrare (Plovdiv Region) and another fire in the region of Ruse.
Military personnel keep on helping firefighting teams near the villages of Ivan Vazovo and Mihiltsi, and the town of Hisarya, all in Plovdiv Region, the Defence Ministry said in a press release earlier on Sunday.
Fire-fighting continues, and work is under strong mobilization, Director of the General Directorate for Fire Safety and Population Protection Chief Commissioner Alexander Dzhartov reported to Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev.
Dzhartov pointed out that the efforts of the firefighters at this stage are concentrated mainly in the regions of Haskovo, Stara Zagora, Kyustendil and Plovdiv. The most difficult situation is near the village of Mustrak, Svilengrad region, where strong winds prevented the localization of the fire. For this purpose, high-capacity equipment has been provided. Two Air Force helicopters are also involved in the extinguishing.
During the past 24 hours, the fire safety and population protection units responded to 250 accident signals, a total of 204 fires were eliminated.
