The world:

- National Day of Montenegro: Statehood Day (1878).

On this date in Bulgarian history:

1999: Parliament adopts Water Act regulating ownership and management of water resources and ownership of water systems and facilities.

2003: Plovdiv Mayor Ivan Chomakov unveils renovated Brezovsko Chaussee, a major thoroughfare.

2008: Women's chapter of GERB party, called Women GERB, is founded in Sofia.

July 14

The world:

National Day of France. Bastille Day (1789)

On this date in Bulgarian history:

1896: Final assembling of St Stephen "Iron" Church in Istanbul (went under construction on April 27, 1892 on initiative of Bulgarian Exarch Yossif I).

1921: Bulgaria's first Advertising Act is promulgated.

2005: First Bulgarian drive-in cinema opens 3 km from Sofia. On an area of 1.9 ha, it has 200 parking spaces and a 200 sq m screen.

2009: Bulgarian News Agency launches an SMS headline domestic and international news service.
