With a much higher voter turnout at the European Parliament elections, it is evident that the centrist political forces in Europe emerged relatively unscathed and as a stable pro-European coalition, Institute of Economics and International Relations Executive Director Veselin Valchev said on Tuesday during the opening of the conference on the meaning behind the results of the European elections.

According to preliminary data, voter turnout in these European elections was the highest in years, somewhere around 51%, Valchev said. He added that the problem here is that this number cannot be associated with Bulgaria, Slovakia and Latvia.

He argued that while the elections have passed, the question marks have not only remained, but have increased. Valchev pointed out that the far right has done well, but not perfectly. Valchev pointed out that the question now is whether the two right-wing groups in parliament can unite.

Valchev argued that the biggest loser after the elections is France and Emmanuel Macron.
