site.btaTennis Player Tomova Qualifies for Valencia Semifinals, Moves Close to New Career High Ranking
Bulgaria's highest ranked female tennis player Viktoriya Tomova qualified for the semifinals of the WTA 125 clay tournament in Valencia, Spain on Friday. Tomova, who is the first seed in the event, scored a convincing 6-3 6-1 win over world No. 116 Darja Semenistaja after 70 minutes on the court.
The Bulgarian achieved two breaks of serve in each of the sets on her way to success.
World No. 69 Tomova earned 49 ranking points and EUR 4,608 with her results this week so far. She thus collected a total of 1,003 points and guaranteed at least equalling her best ever world ranking achievement - No. 64 in the world. One more win will mean a new career high for the Bulgarian.
This week she also received official confirmation of her qualification for the Olympic Games in Paris.
In the next round, she will play the winner of the match between world No. 115 Laura Pigossi and world No. 275 Iryna Shymanovich.
