Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) MEP Radan Kanev told bTV on Thursday that the election result showed unequivocally that his coalition's place is in opposition to the next government.
“The assessment of our voters, of our sympathizers, of our democratic community, is that we are currently not suitable to participate in a government, that we need a period of time to change politically so significantly that we reach again the level of the people who traditionally support us,” Kanev said.
The MEP pointed out that CC-DB failed to find a formula for governing with GERB when the coalition was the first political force. “We found it only when we were weaker,” said Kanev. He added that from the position in which they were weaker than GERB, they showed "mind-boggling, bordering on outright stupidity, vanity" to want to govern alone, with the support of GERB. “Let's throw these twenty people who occupy the key positions in the executive, literally to the dogs, to be torn apart, because the largest party in parliament bears no responsibility,” he said, referring to Nikolay Denkov’s cabinet.
“We allowed to take responsibility for ministers who turned out not to be ours, and to govern with the claim that we govern ourselves, lying to the voters as some of the ministers were not actually elected by our political force,” said Kanev. In a four-year period, "we allowed ourselves to win the votes of voters through a populist radicalization of the vote that did not correspond to the political realities in the country," he added.
“What is important for us, as a collection of political forces that have not become a single political force, is what we will do in the future, whether we are able to change our organizational structure, our politics, our behaviour, our decision-making process, our messages, or not. If we cannot make those decisions that are important to us - then what we do will cease to be important to society. Or it has already ceased,” he said.
