Coronavirus Still Not Detected in Bulgaria,
but Type B Flu Incidence
Soars


Sofia, March 3 (BTA) - No coronavirus infection has been detected in Bulgaria so far, but the incidence of type B flu has increased dramatically, it transpired from the Tuesday morning news briefing of the national coronavirus task force.

More COVID-19 tests are due to be made later on Tuesday, and the potential patients include numerous foreigners coming from France, Iceland, Germany, Romania, Moldova and other countries.

The Director of the National Centre of Infectious and Parasitic Diseases, Prof. Todor Kantardjiev, said that a second wave of type B flu is spreading so fast in Bulgaria for the first time in ten years: the cases are 12-fold more than the H3N2 flu infections which dominated the first wave. Children under 14 are the most affected age group.

The highest incidence of type B flu is recorded in Bourgas, Varna, Plovdiv and some municipalities in Sofia Region.

Turkey will donate to Bulgaria personal protection devices and coronavirus test kits, the Military Medical Academy said. The aid comes after Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara on Monday and with the assistance of Bulgarian Ambassador to Turkey Nadezhda Neynsky.
