Romania's Ministry of National Defence is organizing a new campaign to recruit volunteer reservists from May 20 to June 27, according to a press release issued by the Ministry and published by Agerpres on Monday. There are 4,936 vacancies for officers, non-commissioned officers and soldiers in military units across the country.

The recruitment campaign comes in the context of a war being waged on the Romanian border. Romania has an ageing military reserve made up of more officers than soldiers or rank-and-file personnel, Digi24 said in an article on May 16.

In February, Romania's Ministry of National Defence said it had 5,000 vacancies. After the first stage of selection, 54% of applicants were rejected. Most of them failed the physical fitness test, although the level of difficulty is considered average. A person between 18 and 45 years old with normal physique should not find the test overly difficult, Digi24 noted.

The average monthly income of a serviceperson in Romania is around RON 5,000, equivalent to approximately BGN 2,000.

The general requirements to be met by prospective Romanian personnel are having Romanian citizenship and residence in Romania for at least 6 months, having no criminal record, not being a part of political party, formation or organization.
