Torrential rains in Ankara over the weekend have destroyed roads and caused damage to homes. In some parts of the Turkish capital the floodwater is 1 m high.

The thunder storm lasted close to two days. It caused serious material damage in the Yenimahalle, Cancaya, Altindag and Sincan metropolitan areas. Many streets, boulevards and underpasses were flooded, as well as houses, factories and offices.

Many cars were stranded in the flooded underpasses.

A five-metre pit opened up when a road collapsed in the Yenimahalle district.
